Hyperlinks - possible to keep original doc open?

Hi.
I am new to hyperlinks. I was surprised to find that when
the hyperlink is used, the original document (ie. the one
containing the hyperlink) is closed. So, when the linked
document is closed, it does not return to the original
document.
It seems to me that it should be possible to keep the
original document open, but I can't figure out how.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You have to edit the document so that it opens a new window. So a link to Yahoo would look like this
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.yahoo.com">Click here to go to Yahoo</a>
