eg for a guest speaker, long-serving employee, one which I can customise with
our own letterhead etc. Cannot find under'templates on-line'and do not want
to install Publisher for that one feature. Any suggestions?

Using Windows XP home, MS OFfice 2003.

Hit F1 for Help in Word and enter "certificate of appreciation" into
the Help input and you'll get links to various certificate template on
the MS site.

Or search the entire Template site manually for something suitable:

http://office.microsoft.com/templates

Good luck...
