I can't delete a message in my inbox

I think I have received a bad email, it is literally stuck in my
inbox.
I can't highlight it (with the mouse or arrows), it immediately pops
up with "This action cannot be completed. Mail error."
I've tried the delete button, the control menu, to drag & drop into my
deleted folder.....
What should I do?

Try turning off the Preview Pane (View > Preview Pane > Off) and then
selecting the message and deleting it.

If that doesn't work, your database may be corrupt. Try rebuilding it.
Hold down the Option key when launching Entourage and follow the prompts to
rebuild the database (choose Typical Rebuild or Rebuild, depending on
version).
