I am a little bit frustrated with Pub 2003. In the past I used Word for
Brochures and Calendar, and I needed a program which is more appropriate.
It depends on each person. No one program is right for one person.
I have to find out that MS put less knowledge into this program than
they could have.
Many programs could use many options, but not all programs are like other
programs. And not all programs have all options. Send your wishes to (e-mail address removed)
• Not being able to save my calendar format and change just the dates is
a monthly aggravation. ( I already posted this problem and I haven’t
got the answer yet.)
First of all, keep in mind that this is a peer to peer community. There
are no Microsoft employees here. It's 100% voluntary. That said, you can
either use the Calendar Wizard to create your calendars, but you will have
to setup a Font Scheme and Color Scheme to apply changes to all months
(use the help to learn about schemes). As of now, you can only change formatting
of the 'Month" title formatting without the schemes. Expect future versions
to rely more on themes and schemes, and less on hand holding wizards. With
themes and schemes, you can apply changed through the entire year while
change the dates. You could also create your own calendar from scratch,
and use the mailmerge feature to import all your dates and special events,
and have your formatting throughout the publication. You don't need to
use the wizard.
• I cannot change case with just one button,
Not sure what you mean change case with one button? You mean change "WORD
to word". You are looking for word processor features it appears. If not,
are you looking for a keyboard shortcut to change the case of the first
letter of a word, or a paragraph, of an entire word or entire paragraph?
• I cannot format bullets,
Bullets can be formatted. Search your Publisher 2003 help for "Change
bullets or numbers in a list". You will note there are options for changing
color, font, character and sizing.
• Cannot change the default letter type.
Are you saying you cannot change the default font? I am not sure what
you mean by default letter type. If you mean default font, there are a
couple ways you can do that.
First way, for current publications, is to make your font settings in
a text box, then right click on the text box, go to Format Text Box > Color
and Lines Tab > at the bottom is apply settings to new text boxes. This
will then apply to all future text boxes in that publication.
Secondly, you could establish a font scheme for all future publications.
Do some research on how to use Font Schemes. Here is a quick link to setting
up a scheme for future publications:
http://www.mvps.org/the_nerd/Publisher/FontScheme.htm
Finally, you could use the default text box add-in available from my site.
This add-in allows you to set text box defaults for future publications.
There is also a tutorial available:

• I cannot select more then one picture for inserting into my doc, etc.
You could just drag and drop multiple pictures into Publisher from your
picture folder. In addition (something that Word doesn't have), there is
a very simple way to find and replace graphics with Publisher 2003. Be
sure to check out the Graphics Manager Task Pane (Tools > Graphics Manager).
Be sure to put a check mark in the Thumbnails box. Here you can see all
of your graphics throughout the entire publication and replace them without
the need to visit those pages. You can even save the picture as a linked
picture or view the general details.
I am not aware of many DTP programs that allow multiple inserts of graphics
via the Insert > Picture from file menu. I have been using Adobe Illustrator
10, and even it can't offer that feature. Why Word does is beyond my knowledge
of Word.
If somebody has a solution I would be very happy to hear about it.
My solution is not to expect a program to behave a certain way just because
the company that creates it has another program that behaves the way you
want it to. There are many other Calendar DESIGNED programs that are intended
for creating Calendars. However, Publisher is continuing to work on it's
calendar features in future versions, looking to improve them. Any more
questions, please feel free to post here. --
