First Sync Services in Entourage 2008 and Leopard is really buggy. I would
make backups of both Entourage and iCal first. Turn on Sync Services in
Entourage preferences. Note your data has to be in the Entourage Calendar in
iCal.

For help with Sync Services see:

Thanks for the reply, I have Time Machine on and it appears to have been working fine for quite a while. What I don't know is which specific files it should be backing up and I should look for

Can you tell me:
1. What's the file name for Ical that has the database?
2. Whats the file for Entourage's calendar that has the data base?
3. Should I make a copy of them independently of Time Machine?
4. Once I check the box to turn on the Sync' preference boxes in Entourage to Ical is there anything else I should do to start it or does it just start happening behind the scenes?
5. Is there a way for me to see that's working?
6. How long should the entire sync take?

Are you aware that Time Machine backs up your database hourly and if your
drive is 2GB that's 16GB for 8 hours? If your database is being written to
during a backup that data could be corrupted. There are alternatives to
using Time Machine to get backups.

Entourage and Time Machine (creates chronological backup of Identity can be
used by both Tiger and Leopard)

Alternative method to use Entourage and Time Machine

All of your data is stored in one file----the Entourage database. No way to
find the individual iCal synced items.
4. Once I check the box to turn on the Sync' preference boxes in Entourage to
Ical is there anything else I should do to start it or does it just start
happening behind the scenes?

Should just start, but see this page for help:

5. Is there a way for me to see that's working?

No, but you can often hear disk activity.
6. How long should the entire sync take?

Depends on how much data you have and how busy your computer is.
