Identifying a "List" mail

G

Gnarlodious

Will someone PLEASE explain to me how to get 2004 to identify an email as
coming from a "list address"? I have tried everything and just can't get it
to work for 2 lists

Previously I had described the symptom as "not going to the right folder"
but now I believe it simply is not identifying the mail as from a list.

I'll breathe a sigh of relief if I finally get 4004 working right.

In your last message you called it 1004...

Make a proper entry for each mailing list in Tools/Mailing List Manager, and
make an Address Book entry for it too. (If you're making a new MLM entry
now, you'll be asked if you want to add it to Address Book. Do so.)

Set the folder you want mails to go to _in the MLM entry_, first page. On
the second page, make sure that "Do not apply rules to list messages" is
checked, so messages are not sent off to some other folder if they meet
other criteria. While you're there I also recommend checking "Override the
list's reply behavior and always reply to the list." Makes replying to
AppleScript-Users list much nicer... Just click Reply.

Entity Paul Berkowitz spoke thus:

I deleted all possibly corrupt items and also disabled all rules and other
MLM items, then I rebooted, recreated the MLM rule and still no luck.

This address won't work:

[email protected]

but it is working right for all Yahoo! Lists, for example:

[email protected]

I don't get it. Why would it work only for Yahoo! addresses?

It works for me. I've had that address set up since Entourage 2001 and it
works. I also have one for [email protected], which
is a separate address - maybe you need that too? Even if you don't get the
digest itself, this is a list address used by senders, and MLM uses the
address that list messages are sent TO. So you need this one too.

Otherwise, I think you must have a conflicting Rule, Gnarl. Check all your
IMAP and POP rules and disable or change criteria for any that might be
conflicting, at least for the moment. Then tell us all the settings you have
in the MLM : most important are that you have a valid folder (on importing
from Entourage X that will have reverted to Inbox most likely) and in
Advanced page that you have "Do not apply rules to list messages" CHECKED.
(Then you can go back and re-enable regular rules that might conflict and
you should still be OK.)
but it is working right for all Yahoo! Lists, for example:

[email protected]

It doesn't. You're doing something wrong.
