Identity Cannot Be Opened

I just loaded the MS Office 2004 suite on my new G5 a couple of weeks
ago. I clicked on a link at a website and a test trial version of
entourage opened instead of the version I downloaded. Messages kept
appearing asking me to accept permission for the new software. Not
wanting to screw anything up, I just closed everything. Now when I
try to open entourage (on my profile only) I get the error message
"This Identity Cannot be Opened with this Version of Entourage". Now
I can't open entourage at all. Can anyone help me with this and let
me know how to get the trial MS Office software off my computer?

Thanks, Tom

There are two steps that need to be done to get Entourage running again.
First of all, get rid of the Test Drive. To do that, got to
Applications>Microsoft Office 2004>Additional Tools>Remove Office and move
the application called Remove Office to the desktop. Run the application and
uninstall the Test Drive. This should also delete your full install, so keep
the Office installer disc within reach. After Remove Office has finished,
make sure the Test Drive folder is no longer in the Applications folder; if
it is, drag it into the trash and empty the trash. You will now need to
re-install Office.

Once you've done that, apply all the updates that are available, using
either the Microsoft AutoUpdate application or the manual installers which
you can download from Mactopia <http://www.microsoft.com/mac>. There should
be two updates to perform, the combo update 11.3.3 and the security update
11.3.4. Once you've applied these, Entourage should open just fine.

FYI: the error message indicates that your identity has been opened with a
version of Entourage that is more up-to-date than your current version, and
the database structure has been modified so it is no longer readable by your
non-updated version. By making sure that you are using the latest version of
Entourage, you can access this identity again.

Thanks Michel, The security updates were a life saver! Worked
perfectly!
If I remove the test drive will it erase everything I have saved in
Entourage (emails and calendar) ?

Hi Thomas,

no, it won't do that; your Entourage data is stored in ~/Documents/Microsoft
User Data, and removing the Test Drive will not affect that folder.
