IMAP error -17495

Under Entourage 2008 (with settings imported from 2004, which still works), I get this error when trying to connect to my IMAP server: "The IMAP server's response was missing the expected command and was not understandable." Something has changed with the new version, but would appreciate help figuring out what...

I'm receiving the same error (connecting to a Lotus Notes / Domino IMAP server). This seems to be a consistent issue with Entourage. No previous version has worked well with LN "out of the box." Usually they repair what they have broken after an update or two.

My IMAP server is also a Notes/Domino server. I suppose there's some comfort in knowing this problem is not unique.

Have you monitored your network traffic to see what is failing? It might
help identifying the cause.

Test your network with tcpflow or EavesDrop.

See directions here for tcpflow:

EavesDrop....Let it capture some stuff then double-click any of the lines of
text in the main window to see more detail.

Couldn't get either program to work. tcpflow failed with some sort of "illegal instruction" error (I don't speak Unix) after following the instructions at the link provided, and EavesDrop just sat there doing nothing, and had to be forced quit.

I've tried to submit a tech support inquiry to Microsoft on this (one of my two free tech support opportunities) but the online email submission process (once found) failed every time I tried it, both with Safari and with IE under Windows. Pretty frustrating.

I seriously doubt the MSFT support will be able to help. I think most of
them just read off of cue cards. I would contact my ISP with the info you
gathered from the tcpflow results.

If you can provide us on the list with more info we might be able to help.
Just xxxx out your password and email address.

same problem here... can't use IMAP on our lotus server. Mail.app works fine with the same settings!

Since this is obviously a bug with the interaction between Lotus Notes and Entourage, what is the best way for us to report this issue directly to the MS/Mac BU?

(As I indicated previously, this bug has shown up with each Entourage release -- thankfully fixed with service packs... you would think they would learn from their mistakes and at least document past issues/test against them!)

Use the Help menu in Entourage and select "Send feedback about Entourage".
That goes to the MacBU.

any ideas what might've gotten changed in those updates? something perhaps we could change somewhere in the settings ourselves? the idea of having to wait for an update is unappealing...

so i guess nothing's been found about this, eh? no one has any ideas or thoughts on how maybe to get this working?

I am also having the same problem. My problem started as soon as I upgraded to Office 2008 for Mac, and now I can't use my email in Entourage! I have to use Mail from Apple. Is there a bug fix for this? I have tried EVERY setting under the sun. I am usually able to do figure this out, and have a tech support background, but I am stuck here.

I have reported this. Will report back if I hear something that will help.

I'm having a similar problem with Entourage 2004, both on my laptop (MacBook Pro) & desktop (Power Mac G5). My .Mac account (IMAP) won't send, but my POP account will.

Mac Mail with the same settings sends fine, but Entourage now returns either a "Server cannot be found" message or "Server has timed out" message. Entourage used to work & nothing has been changed, other than the regular UPDATES from MS -- can the updates have broken Entourage?
