IMAP Errors on Exchange Server

Hello,

One of our Entourage 2004 clients is generating IMAP4SVC errors on our
Exchange 2003 SP1 Server at a rate of 30 events a minute.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: IMAP4SVC
Event Category: Content Engine
Event ID: 1023
Date: 6/22/2006
Time: 11:51:26 PM
User: N/A
Computer: XXXXX
Description:
Error 0x7da occurred while rendering message 0009-00000000def5 for download
for user [email protected]

We have had similar errors in the past with Apple Mail and have been able to
fix it quite easily on the client side. This is the first incidence we have
seen with Entourage.

While this does not seem to effect the client or the server at this time it
is just really annoying trying to go through our event logs.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

I don't have a solution for your Entourage specific problem yet, as I've yet
to see that...but I'd like to hear what you did for the Mac Mail clients
having this issue. Other fixes I've seen (preventing indexing in Spotlight,
turning off mailbox synchronization), etc. don't seem to be the issue that
I'm seeing.

Thanks,
Will

Will-

What I have done with the Mac Mail clients is basically disable the public
folders. Here are the steps:

1. Quit Mail.
2. Go into the Home folder for the account that is using Mail and navigate
to /library/Mail/ you will then want to expand the account associated with
Exchange (most likely [email protected]).
3. Expand Public Folders and delete the contents because they will not
longer be accessible once we are done. Mine as well free up disk space.

4. Do a Get Info on Public Folders and set the Ownership & Permissions to No
Access.
5. Fire off Mail again and hopefully the error messages have stopped on your
Exchange Server.

This will keep you from using Public folders via Mail but from my point of
view they are basically un-useable from Mail in the first place so nothing
is lost.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

Simply installing the Office 11.2.4 update resolved the issue for me.
