IMAP Help--I'm A Newbie and a Moron

G

Geoff Peterson

I just switched to Entourage to use IMAP on campus. I am using the
latest update of Entourage (10.1.4) and I have a very troubling
problem., It seems that all of my e-mails are vanishing from my inbox
for IMA, but not on my POP accounts. The Microsoft Knowledge Base
article (272325) says I should check the "options" tab and hit the
"download complete messages box", which makes sense, but I can't FIND
the options tab for my IMAP account! I can find the "options" tab for
my POP account, but I cannot figure out what I am doing for IMAP...
any help out there????
Thanks,
Geoff Peterson

Did you look under Tools-Accounts-IMAP?

Diane- I think you have to edit your account to see the OPTIONS tab. Maybe
that is different in Entourage 10.1.4?

Or double-click it open.

My guess is that Geoff may have set up his account in Entourage as a POP
account instead of as an IMAP account. That would slurp all the messages off
the server so you couldn't find the there from another computer.

If the account has been configured in any email client as a POP account,
delete the account there (i.e. just in that copy of Entourage). That won't
touch the server, don't worry. Then create it anew as an IMAP account: if
using the Assistant, you MUST switch the popup to IMAP in the very first
window, which is what you may have neglected to do last time. Better is to
click "Configure account manually" after clicking New.

After setting it up (you may need to select folders that appear on the right
when you click on the account, and press Subscribe button, but usually they
just appear automatically in the Folder List on the left), you can then go
to Options page and make adjustments. Also, if you find the downloaded
messages from the POP fiasco, you can selet them and drag them up to th IMAP
INBOX or other folder, to copy them back on the IMAp server.
