Imbedding fonts in FP2000 web site

Tom Rhea

Hello,

I need some guidance with fonts in web site project. I'm using "Amaze" as a
font in the web, but when I burn the project on a CD for presentation to my
client, the "Amaze" font -- as well as the background texture -- don't come
through. I feel that the fonts must be resident on the target computer in
order to be displayed in the web site, but I'm hoping that I can imbed them
into my code so that I'll be independent of target computers.

Any thoughts on how to do this?

Thank,
Tom Rhea

There should be another newsgroup at news://fonts.copyright.violations.
I'd be amazed if you could show the published rights for the font called
Amaze so don't be surprised if you get a letter from a lawyer when it
may be too costly to revise if you can not produce permission for its
use distributed on a CD.

Can't seem to find the news site that you're referencing. The font is
listed in FrontPage 2000 so I felt confident that I could use it in a web
site. Where would I go to find out if it is a proprietary font?

Oh, by the way. Putting the web site on a CD was for making it portable for
evaluation purposes only. Once the demonstration was complete, the CD was
destroyed.

The newsgroup is ficticious and simply meant to bring attention to
the fact that many people think fonts may be reused for commercial
endeavors.

Where to review rights for a font is a very good question I can't
answer difinitively. You can starte by reviewing what Microsoft
may have to say at their typography site [1]. I would also try
Google: "copyright"+"clearinghouse"

To review copyright info for a font, simply browse to C:\Windows\FONTS and double click the font
file.

If it is a Microsoft Font, then it is normally freely distributed.

However, the Amaze font is offered for free here:

Thanks, Steve, for the information. I'm still at a loss for how to imbed
the font within the site code so that it will be available without regard to
font availability on client browsers. I've tried the Web Embedding Font
Tool (WEFT) from Microsoft, but without success. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
There was a thread on embedding that referenced a URL on
the 2 methods that can be used on either this NG or on the
ms.pub.fp.client (abbreviated) NG within the last week.

I never had luck with WEFT, and it is only supported on IE
browsers. Depending on how much you use that font, you may
want to set an alternate font in case Amazed was not
available, or convert that text to graphic images.
