The four files "Database", "Mailing Lists", "Rules", and "Signatures"
constitute an identity, Put them in a folder together and put the folder
into your Identities folder. Now tell Entourage to switch to that
identity. m.
An important part is that you need to put this identity folder Matt
describes into the "Office X Identities" subfolder of the Microsoft User
Data folder in your Os user's Documents folder, if you are using Entourage
X. Putting it into the "Identities" folder, if you have one, will do nothing
- that folder is just for Outlook Express 5 used in Classic.
Normally, the files your techie retrieved will already have the requisite
"Database", "Mailing Lists", "Rules", and "Signatures" files already all
together in a single folder, usually called "Main Identity", in the location
described above (~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities/) on
your old computer. (If you had ever renamed your identity, it would have
that name instead of "Main Identity".)
If you try to move or copy that old "Main Identity" folder to the proper
location on your new computer, the Finder will ask you if you want to
replace the current one. If you say Yes, it will overwrite the new identity
you've been using on your new computer, so you'd lose the new emails you've
been receiving here the past few days. If you don't want to do that, first
rename of the "Main Identity" folders - either the old or new one, before
moving it to the correct location in "Office X Identities". Then you can do
what Matt suggests" go to Entourage menu, and select Switch Identity, and
choose the older Identity. If you want to merge the new stuff into it, just
drag out the new data - messages, contacts, calendar events, whatever - to
your desktop or a Finder folder, where they will be files. After you switch
to your older identity, drag those files in and they will be added to the
data there. In the case of messages - .eml files - drag them into the mail
folders of your choice, or move them around after you drag.
