Import Error

After reading many messages here about importing contacts and trying to
emulate the processes, I still get the same error:

"An error has occurred in the Microsoft Excel translator while getting the
contents of a file system.

The file "C:\contact import.xls" was not recognized. The microsoft Excel
translator was una le to recognize this file. I could be the wrong file, a
version of the file type which is not supported by this translator, or the
file might be corrupt."

I browsed to the file so I 'know' that it is there. The spreadsheet of
contact info is Excel 2002 SP1 and OL is 2002 SP1, all running under MS
Windows 2000.

How should I be doing this?
