have done it in the past but do not seem to be able to now.
OS 10.3.4
follow directions: file>import>entourage files...
I just get greyed out files in the import window when I get
to my older MS User Data.
The window behind it says it is importing... but after a
period of time.. 30 minutes... I click done and then the
import window says I have interrupted the import and is
incomplete... look at my email and see no additional files
(email)
is there something that I am missing on a fundamental level?
Yes. You're mistaken. You can't import from another Entourage 2004 identity;
only from X or 2001.
€ The simplest thing is to move your "older 2004" identity into the Office
2004 Identities folder in your active OS X user's Documents/Microsoft User
Data/Office 2004 Identities folder. !!! Rename it first if it has the same
name as your current identity (e.g. "Main Identity") or it will erase the
current folder - you want them both in there.
€ Relaunch Entourage.
€ Go to Entourage/Switch identities... and switch to the renamed identity. €
€ Once there, drag every folder containing messages you want to your desktop
where each will become an .mbox file
€ Switch back to your current identity. One by one, drag in the .mbox files
- they will become mail folders. (If you want some to be subfolders you can
drag them directly to the parent folder.)
€ Don't worry about folders called the same as current folders (e.g.
"Inbox"). They will be automatically renamed "Inbox 1" etc.
€ Now go into each imported folder whose messages you actually want to
transfer to one of your existing folders (e.g. Inbox).
€ Select all messages in the imported folder, and click Move button. Choose
which folder to move the messages to.
€ When moved, delete the now empty imported folder.
€ Repeat as often as necessary.
