Import mail from Mail 2.0 to Entourage 2004 running Tiger

I am running Tiger on my G5 and decided to use Entourage instead of
Mail 2.0 that comes with Tiger. When I went through the initial setup
of Entourage and told it to import my email and mailboxes into
Entourage 2004 from Mail 2.0, it did not import all my inbox mail
mesasges and did not import any of my mailboxes. Is there any way that
I can get all my information from Mail 2.0 to Entourage 2004? Right
now I'm stuck using Mail 2.0 until I figure out a way to get everything
imported into Entourage 2004.

Thanks in advance.

The following method works for Mail 1.3.x and *should* also work for Mail 2,
but I cannot confirm that as I don't have Tiger. Drag your mailboxes
individually from Mail to the desktop. Open Entourage, and drag the newly
created .mbox files from the desktop into the mail folder tree in Entourage,
and your e-mails should be imported correctly.
Entourage's import doesn't work the way it should, and we've already had a
couple of people here who were in the same situation as you. But hopefully,
this method will solve the problem.

Well that's what I thought would work too but of course it doesn't. I
followed your insructions exactly and it won't allow me to drag the
mailboxes to Entourage. So, anybody have any other ideas? This is
really a bummer if you can't import mail to Entourage. I wonder if
Microsoft knows about this.

So has anyone figured out how to import mail from MAIL 2.0 (TIGER) to
Entourage 2004? I can't get it to work and I can't get a reply from
Microsoft. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Allen,

I have the same problem, with one twist. Entourage DOES find my Mail
2.0 folders, but when they are imported they have no email inside. Is
this consistent with your experience, too?

No I get my account settings imported and 1 personal folder with
nothing in it. At least you got al your folders. I need someone to
come up with a solution. It looks like Microsoft has an issue with the
new MAIL 2.0. Is anyone else experiencing this? Has anyone come up
with a solution?

Thanks!

This is no great surprise.

Apple have dramatically changed the format of the Mail.app file store with
Tiger (to allow Spotlight to work). It is hardly surprising that the import
routines built into Office 2004 well over 12 months ago are failing with the
new format.

Now that 10.4.1 is out I may well install it and write a script to import
mail, until MacBU get round to updating the import routines themselves.
