hi ! a friend made me a contact list from his outlook at
work that i need. i couldn't seem to import it into my
computer which is running express, so i went out and
bought outlook. i still can't import this list which is
on a cd. can someone tell me how to do this exactly as
far as procedure as i am very frustrated at this point.
thank you very much and just wondering does microsoft not
have a free tech support phone or live chat line when you
buy there products ?

You need to copy the .pst file from the CD to your hard drive, then right
click and remove the Read-only attribute from its property page. CDs are
read only and Outlook requires read/write access to the .pst file.

Microsoft does not have a live chat line but installation issues are
normally free support from their http://support.microsoft.com site. Go look
at the support options and find the one you may need. For now, the first
paragraph answer should solve your problem.

I'm not Millie, but...

Start Outlook. Click File>Open>Outlook Data File (or Personal Folders File,
depending on your Outlook version, which you didn't state). Browse to the
PST, select it, and click OK. You now have access to everything in it.
Copy the contents of the Contacts folder to your main Contacts folder.

On the whole, I find Outlook's Help to be reasonably good.
