Imported messages dont auto-archive

We have just upgraded from Exchange 5.5 to 2003 and
Outlook 2002 and used ExMerge to transfer over user
mailboxes.

Imported messages don't auto-archived - I guess this is
because they're creation date gets set to the date of
importing.

Is there a simple way to get old messages automatically
archived. I don't want to set up mailbox manager
policies as some users do need to save very old messages
on-line (don't ask why...)

You've described the archive operation perfectly. Your alternative is manually moving the messages into archive folders.
