Importing a .pst from XP to 2003`

Y

ycatsdooh

Hi there:
I tried to import a .pst from a backup of an dead hard drive that was
running XP.

When I tried to do it through import/export I walked through all the
steps and nothing happens. Nothing comes on the screen and nothing
flashes. Nothing at all happens.

The .pst is named old.pst. I tried running it from the correct
directory AND the desktop but it still wouldn't work.

The file is NOT read only and should be ok. I have done restores in
XP and had no problems. I did this import the same way I have done it
in XP and it did not work!!

Help!!

Do not import it but connect to it by File-> Open-> Outlook Data File... and
move them manually

Why import?
Just open it.
Are you sure you created this PST file correctly and that it has no errors?

When I do this - where does it put all the e-mails and contacts??

It doesn't put them anywhere. It leaves them where they are: in that PST.
You can view them there. You can then move whatever you want into your
current default PST.

What do you mena it leaves them where they are in the PST. The PST
was one that was there on the hard drive - it's the one that outlook
created.

Does it restore the e-mail to it's original location like importing
the pst would. Or is there another step??

Sorry to be so silly!! I just don't know outlook 2003.

I want the information in the pst to go back to the original folders
and contacts. When you import them it restores them to those
locations. How do I do this by opening the outlook data file - when I
do that nothing seems to happen.

thanks

Repeating: when you open a PST file, it appears as a second Personal Folders
file in your Profile where you can view all its contents. You can then move
any of those contents into your current default PST file. I don't know how
else to say it. What part do you not understand?
What do you mean "nothing happens" when you open that file?
