How do I move my old address book from a netscape folder or from a
new Netscape onto Entourage? The steps given in the Entourage
manual for importing are not working are not working. I am using a
OSX 10.3.
The Importer only works for Netscape 4.x (Classic) not 7.x (OS X).
Netscape will export its Address Book as an LDIF file. Then it has a
converter somewhere that will convert the LDIF file to a tab-delimited or
comma-separated text file. Entourage can import that, but my recollection is
that Netscape's converter puts every single field (including first name,
last name street address, city, zip, etc) into quotes, which is a big
nuisance. You might be able to get rid of the quotes by importing it into
Excel and removing them there. (My shareware scripts Export-Import Entourage
X - Xcel Save Clean Text - can do it if there's no other way.)
Alternately, Apple's Address Book app may be able to import the LDIF file.
Then you could export all the contacts from there as vCards and drag them
into Entourage. You'll lose a few obscure fields - some phone numbers, etc.
Or use my script Sync Entourage-Address Book to do the import: if you're in
Panther, using the Panther version for a once-off export-import is free.
