I ugraded from an iBook G-3 to a new iBook G-4. In the process I also
changed the short name of my computer as I use to share the old one
with my wife (She now a new PowerBook) I have been unable to get my
contacts to transfer. When I ty to replace the Microsoft User Data
folder I get a message that says "This identity cannot be opened with
this version of Entourage" I saw another posting on this but there was
not enough informaton to help me. I did export my contacts before
making the switch but the groups do not transfer. Any help to get
everything back to the way it was on the old computer? Thanks.

Hi,

I'm afraid your post is not exactly clear: you mention several things,
exporting contacts, replacing the MUD folder, and I'm not really sure how
that all fits together. You don't even mention the version of Office you're
using, which makes it hard to answer your question. Anyway, I'll just assume
that it's Office 2004 and give it a try: the error message "This identity
cannot be opened with this version of Entourage" is generated when you try
to open an Entourage database in an earlier version of Entourage. Microsoft
changed the database format for Entourage 2004 twice, with SP1 and SP2,
respectively, so if you try to open a post-SP2 database in a pre-SP2 version
of Entourage, it won't work. Install all the latest updates for Entourage
(use Microsoft AutoUpdate in your Applications folder, or simply download
the latest update (11.2.3) from Microsoft's website) and you should be able
to open your old database. If anything's still unclear after that, post
back.

Michel,
Sorry for the incomplete/unclear post. It was late and I needed to get
the thing posted as I leave for Japan Sunday. You assumed correctly I
do have Entourage 2004 and your version update worked. Thank you for
your help!
John
