I can't seem to find anywhere how to import contacts into
Entourage from Netscape 7.1. Importing from another
program is not trivial at all. I'm running 10.2.6. I'm not
sure if I need to move folders to my desktop first or what.
Please help.
Netscape 7 for OS X didn't exist when Entourage X was released. So Entourage
will only import from Netscape 4.x (Classic). However, I believe Netscape
mailboxes are stored as text files that are really MBOX files or close to
it. See where they're stored in some Netscape folder on disk and copy them
to your desktop. Change their extension - or add an extension if they don't
have one - to ".mbox" (no quotes). If the files suddenly take on the icon
appearance of Apple Mail files or if you don't recognize the icon as
Entourage's, select one of them click command-I for Get Info, change "Opens
With" to Entourage X, then click the Change All button, and OK. Now all the
..mbox files will have Entourage icons. One by one drag them into Entourage,
and each will become a mail folder. You can rearrange them as subfolders or
whatever after you've imported them all.
(If this doesn't work, make new copies of the Netscape mailbox files, and
don't change the extension. Download or get a copy of Netscape 4.6 for
Classic. Move the mailbox files to wherever they belong in Netscape 4.6.
Open Netscape 4.6 in Classic. Click once on each mailbox there. Quit. Now
import them into Entourage from File/Import.)
