I have three server address books. I can't import text contacts into a
certain address book. The contacts always go into my general contact
address book. Is there a way to import all the data into an address
book of your chosing? Using Entourage 2004, version 11.2.5
You can only have more than one address book if you have an Exchange account
- where the other address books are Exchange address books. You have not
described what you mean by "import" - import how? Via File/Import from a
text file? (Or by dragging in .vcf files, or from a Palm, or Apple's Address
Book, or by AppleScript?)
For some of the above, you can control two choices. From Palm and, I believe
text files and .vcf, you can choose between the local address book "On My
Computer" and the primary personal Exchange address book of any Exchange
account. You do that by setting the default mail account in Tools/Accounts:
if you set it to an Exchange account imports will be to the primary personal
Exchange address book of that Exchange account. If you set it to a POP or
IMAP account, they will be to the local address book. If you don't have a
POP{ or IMAP account, you can set up a dummy one by making a new POP account
but entering only a (made-up, if you like) Sending (SMTP) server address
(smpt.domain.com), with no POP server address. Also include a made-up email
address (
[email protected]) at the same domain. Ignore the warning you get when
you close. Now make the account you want to be Default in the Accounts
window.
Using SyncServices to sync from Apple's Address Book, you can choose any
address book in Entourage's Sync Services prefs.
An old AppleScript dating from pre-11.2 (when there was only the local
address book) will import according to the same default mail account
principle above. An AppleScript written now can specify precisely which
address book to import into. So that would be the way to do it for any
non-primary Exchange address book.
I am soon going to be releasing a pair of scripts that let you merge either
all your address books and calendars, or just the primary ones, into any
"master" address book and calendar you choose, and to do so on a regular
basis (synching).
