Importing From Excel

D. Jarrett

I have attempted to import contacts from excel but each time i do it fails
and i have thousands of blank contact fields in access along with incomplete
contact information. What do i do to import my contacts properly and have no
blank lines.

You need to set a named range in the worksheet to cover all the rows and columns to be imported and then in Outlook's Import and Export wizard, click the Map Custom Fields button to tell Outlook which column's data to put into which Outlook property.

Could you define exactly what "It starts to import, then fails" means?

Specifically:

#1) fails how?
#2) With what error message?
#3) do you also get an indeterminate number of blank contacts before "it
fails"

In the interests of time, if your import also results in blank contacts
prior to failure, then the first issue would be the "named range" that's
been defined. One quick thing that you can do to avoid the issue of "named
range" is to save your worksheet as a CSV file and import that and see if
your import still fails.

#1 - How to save as a.csv file - with your worksheet open - from menu bar
click on ""File --> Save As" - select CSV as the file type in the window
that pops up

#2 - If you're getting 10,000 blank contacts - then the "Named Range" in use
is not correctly set to include <ONLY> those rows & columns that you want to
import. Naming columns is different than the "Named Range". If you're not
familiar with "Named Ranges" and the objective is to get a file that will
result in importing only the required data as quickly as possible - step #1
is the easiest and most straight-forward solution
