Importing Mail Folders - Problem

L

Lynn Q

Hi there,

I was going to import all my Apple Mail folders into Entourage. I am using
Entourage 11.3.6 on Leopard 10.5.1.

I select File, Import, choose Apple Mail and select any variation of the
four items, especially Messages. I then get a message that Entourage Quit
Unexpectedly and it kicks me right out of Entourage.

I haven't had this problem previously and wonder if it's a Leopard glitch.
Any ideas please?

Also, I see that 11.3.9 is the latest "update" of Office 2004. Where do I
find the updates? What is the best method of installing them, i.e., one at
a time, or is there a bundle? Do I really need to install them if I'm
having no issues? I've run the Software Update (under the Apple menu) and
no Microsoft updates have been detected.

Thanks for your suggestions. Much appreciated.

Try creating a new Identity and see if that will import. I will test
importing and let you know what I find. I would expect if there were a
problem, we would have had reports about it before now.

You are using the latest update for Entourage. Microsoft doesn't update each
application with updates. See ³Confused over Microsoft Update Version
numbers?³

Hi again,

Sorry for the delay in replying. Can you please advise me as to how I go
about creating a new Identity? Is this like a new User Account (Mac Account
on the computer)? Guidance much appreciated. Sorry if it's a silly
question...

There are no silly questions.

To create a new Identity in Entourage, select Switch Identity under
Entourage in the menu bar. When the window appears, select "new".

Hi again,

I followed your instructions, but no "New" option appears. I only get the
option to "Switch" and am instructed to close Entourage and all other open
MS programs. When I re-open Entourage I am at the same point and screen as
when I left. Am I perhaps missing something here?

Hi again,

Well, I successfully created a New Identity and then tried to import my
Apple Mail messages with no luck. Same problem as before, Entourage kicks
me out and I have to relaunch it.

Any other ideas please?

Thanks!

It sounds like a corrupt message that is causing Entourage to balk.

If Importing fails, you can use the MBOX method. In Entourage you can just
drag a folder to the desktop to create an MBOX, but in Mail you have to
follow these directions:

To archive a mailbox:

Select one or more mailboxes to archive.

Shift-click to select mailboxes that are next to each other in the list, or
Command-click to select mailboxes that are not next to one another.

Choose Mailbox > Archive Mailbox, or choose Archive Mailbox from the Action
pop-up menu (looks like a gear) at the bottom of the sidebar.

Choose a folder or create a new folder where you want to store the archives,
and then click Choose.

Mail archives the mailboxes as .mbox packages. If you¹ve already archived a
mailbox, Mail does not overwrite the existing file but appends a number to
the filename to create a new version of it.
------------------

You can drag these files into the folder window of Entourage.

Let me know if this helps.

If a term like MBOX is not familiar to you, try checking the Glossary page:
