Importing marked up text

Publisher uses paragraph or rather text styles. Is there anyway one can attach style names to text as it is generated out of say Oracle via Streamserve. With the very cheap by highly effective GST Pressworks, text could be given style mark ups in front and behind prior to import. The imported text then did exactly what it was meant to according to the destination template.
Can be done using Access as a half way house and can be done by producing the source file as an RTF, but a superior result would be obtained by the method desired. If you kindly have any ideas could you email me by taking "A" off my email address. We want to give client organisations the means of producing distinctive animal sales catalogues.

Nicholas, it is awfully lonely when you ask for e-mail replies. There is
many ways of doing what you want, but we will not help those that are to
bone lazy and idle to help themselves.

I apologise for annoying the above person. Why else are instructions given below on this form for email replies. This is my first time trying this game, so I would be very grateful if you could let us all know then by an open reply, what is the most sensible way to mark up text. It cannot surely be that it can only come in form Access or Excel
