Importing messages from Outlook 2003 to Entourage

Can anyone please tell me how to move my email messages from Outlook
2003 to Entourage. I just purchased my new Macbook (w / Core2Duo).
Here is what the Apple Help Desk said, but it doesn't work. I have
archived all my Outlook 2003 email to .pst files. I have moved them to
an external drive. The external drive (via USB) is readable by my
Mac. Apple Help said that i was going to just be able to 'read them
or move them' into an Entourage folder....hogwash...unless I'm doing
something wrong. Pls advise. FYI....if Steve J wants to help
'conversions' from the 'dark side' this very, very basic stuff should
be clear / simple and known by all Apple HELP desk folks. I had to
talk to 3 of them before I found someone who even knew what a .pst file
was.....duuuuuuuuuuh. Sorry for the cynical comments. I just
thought this would be a whole lot simpler than its turning out to be.
Thanks and I hope to have something else to be 'Thankful for' today...
:)

Michel, First thanks for your response. I spent an hour pouring
through the url's and the information..... The bottom line is that
this simple conversion to get mail from Outlook to Entourage is
complicated and will take many steps (hours)..... I'm shocked and
really dissappointed..... I'm reconsidering my purchase.....

The easiest way to get your mail into Entourage is to simply create an
Exchange account in Entourage - all the mail will be simply synced across.

If you can't take the mac into work to connect to the local network, you can
use the OWA address as the Exchange Server address in the account set up
details - providing you have OWA accessible from the outside world,
Entourage can use this address to connect to the server (it uses the same
protocols as OAW) and will download all you mail, contacts and calendar
events.

I thought the message import was pretty straightforward when I did it.
Certainly a lot easier than exporting my email from Opera to Outlook
where I had to reverse engineer the file format myself and write a
script to do the conversion to MBOX format files.

Using Outlook Express/Exchange/Eudora as an intermediary is not that
much faff to be fair and hardly more effort than File->Import.

Well, what do you expect for a proprietary file format? The people to
beat up are Microsoft for not providing an importer for Windows PST
files (there is one for Outlook 2001 for the Mac).

Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit released the .PST Import Tool to migrate
data from Outlook® 2001 for Mac to Entourage® 2004. See instructions and

Thanks Barry. Unfortunately, like most big companies, attaching my
personal computer to the network will not be allowed. As far as an
OWA address.....again, like most companies....thick firewall so - no
can do........ Bummer... Any other suggestions?

Diane, thx for the response. I agree that someone in Redmond should
address this..... The PST conversion file you reference below is ONLY
if you are going from MS Outlook for MAC 2001 to Entourage. The
conversion program has heavy warning signs that it won't work for
anything else so I'm still stuck.....

Any other suggestions?

Thanks Jon,
the (triple) conversion you suggest is widely known to drop the
attachements....so that, unfortunately is not an option....
Any other suggestions?

Well, it's probably overkill just to have your email, but you could use
Bootcamp to dual-boot your MacBook then install Windows, Outlook, and
either look at exporting in different ways or just plain using Windows
on a MacBook instead.

I'm actually in the same boat as you with Outlook 2003, but I'm also
running Windows.
