I am working on a PowerPoint presentation with a looped WAV file that plays
throughout the presentation. During the presentation, the Microsoft "NOTIFY"
sound (the sound you hear when you receive new e-mail messages) plays
randomly. I don't even have Outlook set up on the laptop that the
presentation is running on. Any ideas on what could be the problem? Thanks
for your help

Possibly something on your system is attached to the notify.wav file. Go to
Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices Properties > Sounds and check each of
the Program events to see if any are attached to notify.wav.

If that isn't it, then you'll need to check your presentation for any animations
or transitions that are set to play notify.wav.

Most things on a system are not "random". Play the presentation and try to
identify any pattern. That will lead you to a solution.

I wonder if this is similar to the Critical Stop sound that another user
reported in a looped presentation?

I don't remember that one, but many weird things can happen when people copy and
paste or drag and drop stuff into PowerPoint. And background software could be
the noise culprit too.
