I just set up a SBS 2003 Exchange server and we are connecting 40
10.4.3 (tiger) Macs running Entourage 2004 (11.2.1). We are experience
a problem on just a few of the clients. New mail arriving into the
Exchange Inbox immediately moves to the local Inbox.

Deleting permissions and rebuilding the database (typical and advanced)
do nothing to alleviate the problem. The temporary solution is to drag
local folders in the current identity to the desktop (creates and MBOX
file), create a clean identity, import the local mail from the old
identity and re-setup the Exchange account.

Has anyone seen this bug before? Does anyone know the cause and/or a
fix?

Yes, there have been a few reports of this before. There seems to be no
common cause identified yet, and the only fix that seems to work is to move
to a new identity as you are doing now.

Sorry I can't be more help, but I can confirm that you are not the only one
seeing this.

I've seen that on my own mac after a rebuilt of the database. Rules get
confused and redirect e-mails to the local inbox by default. Resetting
the rules to redirect to the proper box on the Exchange server corrects
the problem. Could that be the case here ??

Not only did I reset the rules, but also tried deleting the Rules file
within the identity folder. Another disturbing problem arose.
Originally all new mail would redirect into the local inbox. After a
rebuild, ALL mail, including filed mail in sub-folders was pulled from
the exchange into the local inbox.

Do you use a third party spam filter like SpamSieve ??
