including chapter number in table of contents

Hello,
I am having trouble getting Word to pickup the chapter number I have added
in a document footer & use this along with the page number when I generate
the Table of Contents. I have used a variety of help articles, but they do
not seem to be solving the problem. I am using Word 2000 & the built in
Heading 1. The footer is formatted using a table. I have tried removing the
table, but this doesn't seem to change anything....infact it creates some
dodgy formatting of the chapter/page numbering!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for your reply Luc, I had referenced that article already & sadly it
didn't work for me - I had to do some mucking around with stylerefs I'm
afraid - which didn't work entirely, but enough to get me by....
