incoming email notifications with entourage 2004

Hi All,

I'm brand new to Entourage... I'm very excited because this is the
first version to ship S/MIME support, so it's the first version that I
can potentially use as my primary email client :). I'm having one
annoying problem that has me almost ready to switch back to apple mail,
though.

I can't get Entourage to alert me to incoming messages on one of my
accounts. I have 4 accounts that I'm currently using Entourage with: 3
IMAP accounts and a hotmail account. 2 of the IMAP accounts are on a
third party server and work fine. The one on the LAN here seems to
function, but entourage doesn't appear to recognize new incoming
messages as it does on the other two. I've tried several combinations
of settings with no improvement. Here's the current setup:

1. In Entourage preferences, under "Notification", "Display an alert on
my desktop" is checked, and is set to "Display message subject only".

2. My send and receive all schedule is set to run every minute.

3. On all 3 accounts, "Live Sync" is enabled, and "Only connect to
inbox" is checked.

4. On all 3 accounts, "Check for unread messages in subscribed folders"
is checked.

For some reason, though, in order to see new messages in the account
that's here on the LAN, I have to do a "Refresh Message List" and I
never get any alert from entourage when new messages arrive. Setting
this account to be my default account does not seem to help.

Can anyone provide any advice?

Thanks in advance,

Geoff

I never got any reply to this, but have finally solved it, so here it
is for the archives...

As it turns out, the server here on the LAN was an older IMAP server.
Upgrading it to a server with the UIDPLUS capability solved entourage's
biffing woes.

It's not clear to me why entourage had this problem and no other mail
program did, but I guess it's a good thing to have a more up-to-date
server :)
