Inconsistent mail lists when POP checking from 2 computers

I have a laptop and a desktop running Entourage. I check gmail and yahoo
mail using their POP access functionalities. I have set my Entourage clients
on both machines to leave copies of the messages on the server. However, if
one client retrieves a message, the second client will NEVER retrieve it,
even though it is still on the gmail or yahoo server. So I end up with
inconsistent mail lists, and have to resort to the web client to track down
messages picked up by one machine but unavailable to the Mac I'm working on.

Is there any way to force Entourage to pick up all mail that it doesn't have
in its local database? Right now it seems to be ignoring everything the
server has marked as Read.

Frustrated Regards,

In the 'options' pane of the account settings dialog (tools menu; accounts)
there is a big button to 'get all mail left on server'

Barry:

Thanks so much for your response. I did see that button, but sadly, in the
case of the Gmail POP account, the button is dimmed out. I've just done a
rebuild of the mail database, and it's still inaccessible.

Any other ideas?

The button will be dimmed when you DON'T have the option to 'Leave mail on
server' checked. If this option is not checked, this will be why you are
only getting some mail on each computer - because the first computer to
check will download th email then remove it from the server. You need to
check that option to leave the mail on the server for th eother computer to
get it too.
