Incorporating Video from a DVD

I need to learn how to toggle back and forth from a
PowerPoint slide presentation to video from a DVD. There
are many clips I want to use during my presentation, and
I don't see any way of saving the clips as files to my
hard drive. So, I will need to switch smoothly from
PowerPoint to DVD and back again several times. Any
instruction would be helpful. I am a PowerPoint novice.
