Incremental export from Entourage possible?

B

Berthold Fagerz

Hello,

I've run und into a problem with Entourage that seems harder to solve than
it looks. I would like to avoid backing up the entire Entourage Database
with my daily backup -- it eats up hundreds of MB even with a single new
mail.

But the risk of losing more than one day's email is not a nice prospect
either. Do you know some application, tool, script, technique, magical
formula ;-) that does the following:

Export mails older than x days (or other criteria) into individual files,
ditto their attachments, and then deletes the sources in Entourage? That
would allow for an easy incremental backup (of the exports only), as well as
spotlight indexing. <dream> File names would include the subject, and
creation dates were set to date received. </dream>

So fare I have looked at MailBackup X, Emailchemy, Mail Network backup, and
Entourage Browser (found at versiontracker, macupdate.com, and
macscripter.net), to no avail. They either just didn't work with a German
Entourage/system or didn't export the required files. Entourage Browser docs
were promising, but the app doesn't work and development seems dead since
2003 :-((

At macosxhints.com were some scripts: The "AppleScript to export Entourage
emails" by golgi_body produced an error (file name duplicate?) and does not
export attachments nor delete the source. (And the terminal scripts "Back up
Entourage data files automatically" from Anonymous and another script with
the same name by gatorparrots are beyond my limited understanding to use and
edit.)

Where else should I look? Any tricks?

It is really a mean 'feature' that that there is no "export" in Ent's
AppleScript support nor in the schedules. :-((

What are your ideas? Thanks for input!

Bert
