Classic support is no longer included in Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard"; however,
it can still be found in Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger", and that's good news,
actually. Office 2008 requires 10.4.9 or above, meaning that you can run it
on an older Mac that still has Classic support, provided you also install
Tiger on that Mac. You may be able to find cheap copies on eBay now that
Tiger has been replaced by Leopard.
That being said, Microsoft Works is a *very* old application, and now might
be a good moment to consider adopting a more recent application that makes
use of all the modern technologies offered by Mac OS X. Do you think you'll
still be needing Works 3 with Word 2004/2008 available on the same hard
drive?
Shame. We still use a very ancient Microsoft for Mac programme (Works 3) for
certain things. It won't run on later Macs which don't run Classic (above
10.3.9) and therefore we can no longer travel with it if we upgrade to Office
2008.... sigh! No solution??
