Index trouble

I'm using Word 2003 with XP. Downloaded the updates and I'm running Dectect
and Repair right now.

My index used to display this:
Ledger 66, 67, 69, 71, 73, 74, 75, 83, 115, 117, 122, 124, 126, 128, 134,
141, 202, 218, 222

Now it displays this:
Ledger 76, 79, 82, 85, 87, 89
Ledger 100
Ledger 112
Ledger 116

(Ignore the page numbers please)

I can't figure out why sometimes the page numbers are all on the same line
with the topic, and sometimes, the topic repeats on the next line with the
next page number..makes for a very long index!

Thanks

This happened to me, and I did everything I could think of to fix it. I
suspect the document was corrupt, and possibly the techniques at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm would have helped, but in
this case I ended up unlinking the index when editing was complete and
fixing it manually.

Just in case there's a real reason for it, though, compare the XE fields for
some of the entries that are not joining the group to make sure there's not
an extra space or other minute difference.

Thanks Suzanne. I tried the corruption fix from the FAQs page you cited, and
that didn't work.

But it is nice to know to start into "manual" mode.

Thank you,

Mary
