I have a number of IMAP accounts, and have Entourage set to download the
headers then retrieve the rest when I double-click (or sometimes I select a
whole bunch, then select 'retrieve entire message' )
This used to work beautifully with Office X, but now with 2004, MOST of the
time double clicking leaves me with a blank message window, but another
'new' email with the same subject and the full message body. The original
message I opened still shows up as being an incomplete email, and I cannot
delete it. This also happens when selecting a bunch of emails and
retrieving the messages. Seemingly at random, it will duplicate the message
subject in the list, but only one of the emails will actually be readable
and intact.
The only way to fix this is to control-click the folder and click 'Repair
Message List' (or press Command-Option-L) I've had it installed for 3 days
and so far have had to do this at least eight times.
THIS IS RIDICULOUS!! Also, the stupid thing refuses to download inline
pictures in emails unless you manually click on each and every single email.
I will decide what is good for me. There is no way MS have any idea what
security or safety is anyway. Them trying to tell me something is unsafe is
like the police pulling over Michael Schumacher and telling him driving a
car fast is dangerous.
I'm so annoyed by this 2004 update. Office X worked fine for me but I
installed 2004 only because we were given it free at a MS product launch.
I'll be moving back to Office X very shortly, and WON'T be recommending 2004
to any clients until they fix it. Firstly 2004 wouldn't work at all due to
some obscure font problem that doesn't affect any other applications. After
disabling all OS9 fonts it finally started up. Then I had to sit there for
twenty minutes turning off the 'Projects' view in my 9 separate IMAP
accounts, turning off the new 'features' they had turned on automatically
which I don't like, individually turning off the stupid 'Show in Groups'
option which enables itself by default for the 45 or so IMAP folders I use
regularly. How come there isn't a standard view which can be applied to all
folders? Maybe there is but I haven't found it yet.
Now I'm going to have to move everything back to Office X so I can actually
get some work done. Wonder how long that will take. I have only one POP
account but it has numerous folders set up. Not sure if I can export back
to Office X.
