Hi Diane:

I tried running disk utility on my hard drive, and got the following
message:

Checking volume bitmap.
Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
Checking volume information.
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.

Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair

But the "repair" button never became highlighted, jus the "repair
permissions" button, which I pressed. The permissions were supposedly
successfully repaired, but I continued to get the same message as above when
I went to verify the permissions.

Does this make any sense to you?

Many thanks,

Kathryn

You can't repair on a volume that you are booted from. Either use your Mac
install CD to boot or select another volume in System Preferences -->
Startup Disk.
