Insert Symbol Dialog Box

The Symbol Dialog Box is missing from the "Insert" Drop
Down menu on Word 2002. It is not in the extended box
either. It was there at one time. It disappeared after I
attempted to insert an "em" symbol. Pressed "Alt"
+ "Ctrl" + "Shift (-)" The box will not reappear even
after shutting down WORD and restarting. By the way, when
I did the ALT+CTRL+"Shift(-)", the cursor changed to a
heavy horizontal line (first time I had ever seen this)
and then reverted at a later time. Can you help me
restore the Symbol Dialog Box to the Insert Drop Down Menu?

Jim,

An EM dash is inserted using ALT+CTRL+NUM KEYPAD -

I suspect you activated the terminator hyphen wiht ALT+CTRL+Keyboard - (you
missed the Shift key).

The terminator hypen waxes (kills) any menu command it touches. You likely
went to Insert>Symbol withe the terminator and killed it.

To restore the symbol command, right click an unused portion of your menu
bar. Then select Customize>Commands. In the category menu select Insert.
In the commands menu scroll until you locate the symbol command and drag it
back to your menu.

You nailed it! I was able to restore the command just as
