Inserted Projects

Harry

I want to insert a portion of a project file in the Master project file. I
want to insert only certain phases and tasks of a project file in the master
file.

How can I select which rollup tasks I want to insert?

Hi Harry,

I'm believe inserting a project is an all or nothing thing - you can't just
select some tasks from a project to insert and omit others.

You could copy and paste the summary tasks (which will grab the subtasks as
well) but changes in the original projects will not be reflected in the
master.

You could break the larger project down into separate project files with
specific phases in them and then be able to re-assemble selected pieces into
a master, but this may not be work the effort.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Why is inserting a subproject an all or nothong thing, Is this a bug in the
sytem or an enhancement that MS needs to pay some attention to?

Does anyone else have a workable solution to insert a portion of a
subproject while maintaining the integrity of the subproject? Thanks

Hi Harry,

As I don't work for Microsoft, I am afraid I can't answer the "why"
question. ;-)

That being said, I don't know if I would go so far as to say its a "bug" in
the system. To the best of my knowledge, you cannot insert *part* of any
file (Word, Excel etc) into another file without the copy/paste or copy paste
link method.

You can copy and paste link individual tasks from one project file to
another but it is still a manual process and paste links are known to be
fragile.

Sorry that is all I can offer.

Perhaps one of the VBA gurus can offer some advice to you could try posting
the question to the developer ng.
