Install of Office and OneNote 2007 Trial Fails

I was running Office 2007 and OneNote 2007 BTR2.

They both worked beautifully until this morning. When I tried to remove
them, using Add/Remove Programs, I was unable to do so.

I found KB 928218, and followed it step-by-step, over the last few hours. I
then tried to install the trial for both Office Standard and OneNote 2007. I
am able to successfully enter the Product Key, but always get the message
"... has encountered an unknown error and has to close."

I have also shut down my ZoneAlarm and tried again. Got the same message.

Any new suggestions would be VERY much appreciated. (I am just a few weeks
away from buying a new computer, so don't want to buy 2007 now, and then
re-buy it again for the new machine.)
