Installing Office 97 on laptop with Windows Millenium and Works 2001

I have Office 97, Professional Edition, update disc
purchased separately, and originally installed on my
desktop puter, with Windows 95.

I get message that I have no qualifying software for
update Setup.

Can't seem to get around that, tried putting in the disc
for Works 2001, but no luck, just kicked it out.

Can someone give some options, as my desktop died, won't
boot, and I need a word processor for tomorrow.

.
Since your Works program is a later edition than Office
97 it will not accept it as a qualifying product.
Your Office 97 is an "update" so it will not install
without a qualifier.
If you need a word processor, install works, it uses Word
as a word processor. Your files will be saved as .wps
format, when you get an updated version of Office you can
possibly use Works as a qualifier. I would research and
find out what versions of Office accept Works 2001 as a
qualifying product first.
The files saved in .wps format can be opened in Word
later. You will probably need to download a converter
from Microsoft to do this.
