I found this article in Businessweek interesting and its reference to
Entourage:

Pale imitation of Outlook? Yet another poorly-written poorly-researched
article.

I'd never discount anything written in Business Week. This magazine is
considered one of the best. I've read it regularly for 20 years if not
more. If they write something people listen.

Sure, but that does not necessarily make the statements which the journalist
makes about Entourage correct. Entourage was created in a period where there
already was a version of Outlook for Mac; Entourage was never meant to be an
imitation of Outlook.

Yes but that's probably why Microsoft is dumping Entourage and
implementing Outlook in Mac Office 2010.

Of course one can question a journalist and how good they are but I'm
certain Businessweek hires the best. This isn't some BLOG where any
twit can write anything they want and ooops someone actually gives it
credence. Magazines such as Businessweek, Time, Newsweek etc do a lot
of vetting of articles before they get out the door. Businessweek
though is oriented to business and its technology section is oriented
to the way in which technology works for business.

Don't get me wrong there are some things I like in Entourage better
than Outlook. However, there is a lot to be desired - unreliable
database, issues around backup, sync services (probably not Entourage)
and I feel sorry for those that have to connect to an Exchange system.
This forum is just replete with issues that aren't of an insignificant
nature.

We don't know what Microsoft is doing in Office 2010, other than a
name. You can be sure that Outlook 2010 won't be an "implementation" of
Outlook.

The article is nonsense, regardless. It also ignores the fact that
Mail.app will have even greater limitations wrt Exchange access than
Entourage.

You just said we don't know what Microsoft is going to do with Outlook
2010 then you contradict yourself by suggesting you know.

A comment like this is too bold unless its backed up with well
constructed reasons. Everything you've just said is just pure opinion.
There are many and I mean many that have highlighted the significant
problems with Entourage. For far too many they've had to abandon the
platform which should never have been the case for a variety of
reasons - time invested in the product through product cost, training,
implementation support etc. In a corporate environment especially
these things are not small and often business affecting through
operational problems. For the individual end user its just extremely
annoying, time wasting and can be upsetting and embarrassing if data
is lost and data does get lost when Entourage acts up. Just scan this
forum for things that have acted up and they're way too frequent and
those users who haven't just lost a couple of records like myself but
a whole database's worth of info. I don't think the author is off at
all.
