internet connect DSL

Frequently when checking email, entourage goes into dial-up mode
rather than DSL, followed by the pop-up message of "unable to
connect to the internet as you failed to put in a telephone number."
I click ok and then go back to the email and I get connected via DSL.


Any suggestions?

You don't say what OS you are using. Assuming OS X, go to System
Preferences > Network and in the Show drop-down menu select Network Port
Configurations. There, you can check the ports you want the system to use
for you particular configuration (uncheck those you do not want the system
to try). In addition, you can re-order them (drag up or down) to insure
that the system tries the ports in the order you desire (assuming you have
more than one box checked).

thank you so very much, it worked, and yes indeed it is OS X.26.
Something new has started and I am unsure if this is at all related to
the NOR CAL Earthlink outage last week and/or the changes I made. I
am now getting frequent "could not

retrieve mail from account
A connection failure has occurred.

This seems to happen after sleeping rather than start-up.
Any ideas, thougths, suggestions are most appreciated.
