Internet Newsletters

I am a novice. Is Publisher a good program to produce an internet newsletter? I would like to have a relatively simple logo and banner across the top, then plain text.....

I would recommend against using Microsoft Publisher for this kind of thing.
This would generate a very large filesize on the email, which could easily
be reduced by using different software
I would suggest Microsoft Outlook in conjunction with Microsoft Word,
possibly also in conjunction with one of the commercial mass mailers,
depending on the volume of people to whom you are sending.

Does Outlook have the graphic capability I am looking for? As for the mass mailers, I am seeking to avoid the expense and do it myself. Volunteer with a non-profit agency . . . .

A couple of items:
You may use Publisher to create a newsletter. If your
newsletter is not a commercial endeavor, you can download
win2pdf for free: http://www.win2pdf.com
I create monthly computer club newsletters in this
manner. http://www.myscacc.org/newsletters.htm

If you have FrontPage on hand, I create html newsletters.

JL only because you are a bunch of paranoid abnormals. Anybody can pick up
a phone book if they want personal contacts. Is it not time you started
being normal again in the US.
I see the sacked a women because she sent a picture from Iraq of them
loading US coffins on to aeroplanes for return to the US. Incredible stuff
and stupid. Surely Americans are not that dumb they do not realise 500 odd
US citizens have been killed in Iraq. The more people are made aware of the
stupidity of Iraq the better. About time US media stopped preaching fear
every minute of the day.

Well substantially in so many areas.
Take a Serif PagePlus newsletter with columns and then convert it to PDF and
then to a webpage. Makes Publisher 2003 look pretty damn sick in those
areas. Consequently for newsletters it is more powerful than Publisher.

I would like some examples David. While I agree PP9 is an excellent program,
I find nothing that makes it more *powerful*. You mentioned pdf and web.
Well, Publisher converts newsletters back and forth, print to web, web
to print with columns, no problem. Less PDF of course (yet there are free/pay
options for PDF). However, Publisher can one up this by using the catalog
merge to create an online store with pricing and pictures merged from a
database, then uploaded to the web for a shopping/catalog site. THAT is
power, in my opinion. And then on top of that, you can automate Publisher
to seek the picture/pricing/inventory database, pull in the newest data
(replace old if need be) and automatically upload to the site using VBA.
Something that you can't do with PP.
I would be happy to hear more of your *power* theories.

Brian well give us a demonstration!!!

There is not even a columns dialogue button in Publisher 2003.

You are struggling Brian, struggling. Start thrashing around so you don't sink.

Brian,

One cannot. But I thought you knew that! You must use the program much. :)

Brian I have never tried to do a Catalogue Merge to HTML.
I doubt it would work, and would not expect it to.
Thinking about it, there should be no reason why it would not work.
Does it work?

Generally speaking the Catalogue Merge functions fabulously.

JL he is actually a fine Australian teaching in the UK.
The Blitishers have to import thousands of Australian teaches every year and
pay them a small fortune because they are so well educated and trained. The
Blitishers cannot get sufficient trainees with a hight enough intellect to
train, and then they are sub-standard.
They are paying my daughter UK£155.00 - US$276.43 - AU$376.66 a day plus
allowances for teaching high school higher English and Maths. Thankfully
she has her dads brains. She has kids in her class older than she is. She
has only just turned 20. Personally I think that sort of money is obscene
to pay a 20 year old teacher.

No, they just can't get enough trainees. They will take literally _anyone_
into teacher training at the moment.

I doubt that. I would suggest that she is teaching English and Maths at
GCSE or A-level.
She has kids in her class older
than she is. She has only just turned 20.
Unless she's teaching at a university or evening class, I sincerely doubt
that.

A salary of £25,000, approximately? (When you take into account that she
won't be working for a significant part of the year). It's not a bad
starting salary - she will earn more because she is teaching two subjects,
and I believe that the cost of living is quite high here (but don't quote me
on that)

Ed "GCSE or A-level" whatever the final two years at high school are is what
she teaches. They are predominantly 16 to 18 year olds.
Don't you have people that go back to school at 20 to 25 that did not
finish? Not many, but most average high schools will have a couple and
sometimes even older. We have no age limit who can or cannot attend school.

There are very few "high schools" in the UK.
We have Secondary Schools. The final two compulsorary years teach up to the
GCSE qualification. The final two years in many schools are the optional
6th form years, teaching to AS and A level.
Don't you have people that go back to school at 20 to 25 that did not
finish?
Very rarely. Most people who drop out in the 6th form stage either never
get A-levels or go to a different institution (normally a technical college)
a year later to try again.
If they don't get A-levels, they'll sometimes enrol in evening courses at a
local technical college later in life to get A-levels.
Nobody can drop out of school before they finish Year 11 (the school year in
which they turn 16). They may not sit any exams or get any qualifications,
but they have to turn up.
Not many, but most average high schools will have a couple
and sometimes even older. We have no age limit who can or cannot
attend school.
That doesn't really happen over here - at least, not that I've ever seen.
It probably happens more in the technical colleges than in the schools.
