Invalid Password

My organization is having an issue with password protected presentations. There is inconsistency among those who can not open a password protect presentation. It's not a fat finger, typo or case sensitive issue. It's not a corrupt file issue; we've tested different new files. The issue varies by OS, Office version, service pack version. However, the same users can not consistently open the presentations; all users are admins of their pc's.
Creator of presentations:
OS- Win2K and WinXP; Office- XP; Service Packs- 1 and 2
Those who can not open password protected presentations:
OS- WinXP; Office- XP and 2003; SP1 (XP) and 2 (XP)
The error message: well, for the XP users it is "Incorrect Password"; for the Office 2003 user it is "Invalid Password". And there was one other oddity found in testing. One of the 2003 users was prompted for the password; however, the presentation was open in the background.

I'd greately appreciate knowing whether anyone else has come across such an issue with the password protection issue.

This isn't something that's come up here before that I know of.

Can you create new PowerPoint files using non-proprietary content and
reproduce the probem consistently?
If so, we may want to arrange to get these to MS for further testing.

Thanks Steve for the reply; it helps knowing that I didn't miss anything in researching. All of our tests were simple one slide presentations that said "Testing" with a simple one word password without caps, numbers, etc. Our next step here within our organization is to contact MS for a solution.

Thank you kindly!
