iPhone and Entourage

I have just purchased an iPhone. I've placed my main email account on the
phone and as long as the phone is OFF (or the email account is switched OFF)
Entourage receives mail normally.

As soon as I turn the phone on to receive mail (even if it's idle), if I hit
Send/Receive in Entourage - the program hangs and will not stop trying to
receive until I force it to do so.

Then as soon as I turn the iPhone off, it's back to normal.

Something in the iPhone settings is interfering with the ability of
Entourage to go get messages.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated!

One more piece of information.

Up until I bought the iPhone, I had (have) a Blackberry - which played with
Entourage flawlessly.

Why would the iPhone cause Entourage not to Receive?

I'm not sure what's causing this but let's put into perspective what's
happening...

The iPhone and Entourage do not talk with each other. They're both
connecting to an account on a server. I'm going to assume this is an
IMAP account and not POP based on the behavior you're describing. So,
apparently, the server can not handle multiple connections or something
similar.

If this is IMAP then one of the first things I think of is a feature in
the Options tab of the Entourage Account called "Send commands to server
simultaneously". It's pretty self-explanatory. The E-mail client does a
lot of talking with the server but some servers need the commands issued
one at a time and need to send a response before receiving the next
command. Disable this command in Entourage and see if this helps.

If this doesn't work then you might try disabling other options in
Entourage to see if they have any impact.

Is the server a private company server or a publicly available server
such as Gmail or .Mac? Maybe someone else has solved this problem. Also,
is this Entourage 2004 fully patched?
