Is it possible to merge an XLS list into a PPT doc ?

I need to create certificates of participation for several meetings (100s of
attendees) and would like to use the merge feature. Unfortunately, all the
nice looking certificate templates seem to be created in PowerPoint rather
than Word.

Any suggestions? Naturally, my deadline is short (need to complete the
first batch on Nov 12-04).
