is it possible to perform EAV analysis on the project without usin

I am sorry. The question is possible to EAV on project if you are not
entering any rates. In my organization we don't enter any rates on project so
how can you perform EAV to get CPi and SPI with $$$ if you just have hours.

Bora,
By definition, earned value metrics are financially based. However, that
doesn't mean you need to divulge your rate structure in the Project
file. If you give each work resource a generic rate of $1/hr (or
whatever your local monetary type is), you will still get earned value
metrics. The absolute values of BCWP, ACWP and BCWS will not be correct
of course but CPI and SPI will be.

I have tried it now the cost show up, but the CPI and SPI is zero for all
tasks. ALso I could not figure out a way to add the EV to the view. Looks
like it is not available to display and select from available colums

Bora,
Did you set a baseline? If not, you won't get any earned value metrics.
If you did set a baseline, have you input a status date (Project/Project
Information)? Earned value metrics are calculated in terms of
performance by the status date.

As far as displaying earned value, there are several Project fields for
earned value (e.g. ACWP, BCWP, BCWS, CV, SV, CPI, SPI). All of those can
be added as columns to a task view (e.g. Gantt Chart) and most of them
can be added as columns to a resource view (e.g. Resource Sheet) or
combination view (e.g. Resource Usage view).

Your frustration with MSP and EVMS is why I have developed the
EzEVM(tm) excel workbook. It takes data from MSP or other scheduling
program and does all the analysis and common EVM charts. Maybe it can
help.

Thanks John, I have saved a baseline before but cost under project statistics
baseline cost shows "0" I guess when I saved the base line, I have not
entered any rates, so CPI and SPI still shows zero. I see EAC which I thought
was EAC = BAC/CPI I am not sure MS is calculating that.

Bora,
Before you save a baseline, the file must be resource loaded and the
resources must have non-zero rates. Otherwise there is no cost data on
which to perform earned value analysis.

Project does have an EAC field. One of the best ways to get more
information on any of Project's fields is to add the field of interest
as a column in a view, if it isn't already part of the view table. Then
hover your mouse over the column heading. In a few seconds a pop up will
appear that provides a quick link to a detail help topic on that field.
