Is it possible to shut off the mail function of entourage while still
utilizing the calender, task, etc with an exchange server?

My goal is to use Apple Mail for exchange mail and Entourage for
calender and task function with my exchange server.

Set Entourage to "Work Offline" under Entourage in the Menu bar. I would
also uncheck accounts "include this account in my send & receive schedule".
This is under Tools --> Accounts. Open each account to select option. This
way you are doubly secure in no downloads.

Great...but would I still be able to sync my calcender and contacts
with the server?

Yes, just enable sync services in Entourage preferences.

I don't think this is what the original poster wants; he uses an Exchange
account. I've never used one of these accounts, so I can't really say if the
Offline mode affects the synching of calendar events and contacts, but my
guess is that it should *not* be possible to sync these items while in
Offline mode.

I was assuming it was his "on My Computer" calendar and contacts. It seems
that using all Apple would be the way to go IMHO.

Connecting Entourage to Exchange is all or nothing. It's not possible to
sync calendar and contacts without also bringing down mail. Of course,
you can set your main window to display your calender and just ignore
the mail. Not a brilliant idea but it would work.

You don't have to use the mail portion of Entourage. It may insist that you
set up at least one mail account, but you can entirely disable the Schedule
"Send and Receive All", so that Entourage will never check for mail, and, as
long as you don't manually send a message, will never send any.
