Is mail port 25 open?

Not specifically an Entourage question but Corentin Cras-Méneur said

My question is "what network"? I did a port scan of the router my router is
connected to but no port 25 showed up. Can someone explain the details or
recommend another group?

Thanks.

:)) I can try an answer.
By Network I mean a local network at work or through your Internet
Service Provider at home.
Basically, Port 25 has to go through whatever service you use to connect
to the Internet.

The easiest way to find out is to set-up the SMTP server the way I
mentioned you could and try and send an e-mail. If it goes through, then
port 25 is open :)))

I would not recommend a port scan. First you'd have to port-scan a
server that does have the port 25 open fro receiving data from an SMTP
server (eg a POP server) and then, the administrator of the server could
mistake this for a hacking attempt and make sure your ISP closes your
account...... Not a good thing.... Stay away from port scans on "public"
machines.
